The westbound outside lane and the eastbound inside lane over the Pierre-Fort Pierre Bridge are currently closed, resulting in one lane of traffic in both directions. The traffic control will help keep the traveling public safe while construction crews transport materials in and out of the project site for the next phase of the bridge construction project.
Beginning in the spring of 2023, both westbound lanes of the existing bridge will be permanently closed to accommodate construction activities. At that time, the eastbound lanes will be used for one-lane traffic in each direction. Width restrictions will be in effect during one-lane traffic, with detours for oversize loads diverted to SD-204 across the Oahe Dam utilizing SD1804 and SD1806.
Pedestrian traffic on both sides of the bridge will remain open.
Any extended periods of lane closures will be announced via press releases, the website, SDDOT Facebook and Twitter, and other media outlets as necessary. Social media updates can be followed at #PierreFortPierreBridge.
