The traveling public should be mindful of intermittent traffic control over the Pierre-Fort Pierre Bridge throughout the construction project. Lanes will be closed as needed to help keep everyone safe while construction crews transport the necessary materials for the new bridge.
Beginning in the spring of 2023, both westbound lanes of the existing bridge will be permanently closed to accommodate construction activities. At that time, the eastbound lanes will be used for one-lane traffic in each direction. Width restrictions will be in effect during one-lane traffic, with detours for oversize loads diverted to SD-204 across the Oahe Dam utilizing SD1804 and SD1806.
Traffic will remain open through the entirety of the project. Any extended periods of lane closures will be announced via press releases, the website, SDDOT Facebook and Twitter, and other media outlets as necessary. Social media updates can be followed at #PierreFortPierreBridge.
